lose 30 pounds

See [How many calories to lose weight]
im 21,i weight 169 and im 5’7 and a half. how many calories do i have to eat daily so i dont go into starvation mode, but also so i am able to lose weight healthy? i do cardio at the gym 4-7 times a week, and right now im eating 1200-1500 calories a day? is this too little? what do you guys think? just started my diet
1200 to 1500 calories a day are WAY below what you should be eating. The bottom line minimum for males are 1600 calories. You aren’t even getting the minimum. You are malnourished. You are risking injury and ketosis.
According to my formula you should be eating 2900 – 3200 calories a day to MAINTAIN your current weight of 169 pounds. If you want to lose weight you need decrease that amount by 500. So, for you that would be somewhere between 2400 – 2700 calories a day. It is important to remember that if you decrease your physical activity, you need to decrease your calorie consumption. If you do cardio 7 days, eat the high end amount. If you do cardio 4 days, eat the low end amount.
NOTE: Those calories are assuming that your cardio is pretty intense. Meaning you are not leisurely jogging or walking on a treadmill while talking on the phone or reading a book. For cardio to be effective you must sustain a heart rate at 60 – 80% of your max heart rate for a minimum of 20 minutes and a max of 60. In other words, don’t mess around. If you can have a conversation while doing cardio, it is not intense enough. If you can’t or if it is broken up, then you are doing something. If your cardio is not intense, then you need to eat somewhere between 2100 – 2300 calories a day. As you can see, it is all dependent on how active you are.
FYI: There is no such thing as starvation mode. The answer talking about eating too few calories slowing down your metabolism is more like right.
Best of luck and good health!
